Natural Resources
As the Fillmores developed Unity Farm, they discovered that the land was blessed with numerous natural resources. In the process of drilling for water, Unity workers discovered over 25 oil and natural gas wells, enough to provide heat to the Kansas City headquarters and gasoline for the vehicles and farm machinery. In 1926–1927, workers constructed Unity Dam and Lake No. 1 on Little Cedar Creek to provide a steady water supply for Unity Farm. At the time, the concrete buttress dam was the only one of its kind in Missouri.
