Butterworth was fond of quoting the ancient Egyptian literature that said, “God is an infinite sphere, the center of which is everywhere and circumference nowhere.” The importance of this statement becomes clear when one recognizes Butterworth’s concept of God did not include an anthropomorphic being sitting on a throne, making judgments about the world. Rather, he believed God is a “presence of infinite love and life and power…”
