Charles Fillmore in 1948.

Legacy

Since the transition of Charles Fillmore to the spiritual world on July 5, 1948, thousands of people are still reading his books, essays, and pamphlets. Unity centers around the world continue to teach the fundamental spiritual principles Charles learned and taught. Longtime Silent Unity director May Rowland said, “Charles never ended his ministry.” While some people in this situation might bask in the limelight, Rowland said, “Charles never let anyone put him on a pedestal.”

What many people today don’t know is that Charles had a playful side. He set the metaphysical law that “everybody should know how to sing.” He said “when (people) think a great deal about spiritual things and especially about God as an indwelling spiritual presence, both mind and body are thrilled with joy, a feeling of satisfaction, and a tendency to break out in songs of gladness.” He believed everyone “can drive away the gloom of disappointment by resolutely singing a sunshine song.”

Above all things, Charles Fillmore knew the world could be made better when each person is able to know the divinity within themselves. “Have faith in the power of your mind to penetrate and release the energy that is pent up in the atoms of your body, and you will be astounded at the response.”
