“It is not a crime to be rich nor a virtue to be poor.” Charles did not believe in asceticism to achieve spirituality. Rather he believed, “We live in a very sea of inexhaustible substance, ready to come into manifestation when molded by our thought.”

Many people report hearing Charles say, “It’s a sin to be poor.” While the word poor usually means something financial, Charles taught that the word prosperity does not mean only financial gain. Instead, prosperity can be found in the abundance of all things, such as family, love, peace, and intelligence. 

With God as the infinite source of substance and supply, “There is no lack of anything anywhere in reality. The only lack is the fear of lack in the mind of man.” Charles encouraged people to “get behind a thing into the mental realm where it exists as an inexhaustible idea, and you can draw upon it perpetually and never deplete the source.”
