Eric Butterworth lectures on effective prayer.

Tools: Prayer and Meditation

Butterworth believed “Prayer is not conditioning God with your needs, begging for handouts from heaven. It is, rather, conditioning your life with the activity of God.” True prayer begins with “letting go” of negative thoughts so that a consciousness of “infinite love and life and power” can be attained. He emphasized that the power is not in the actual prayer words but in the “life-affirming attitude” within them.

Butterworth made a distinction between prayer and meditation (what he often called silence). While prayer is “concentration of thought from the center,” meditation or silence is “concentration at the center.” It is during meditation that people can experience oneness, wholeness, and life as consciousness.
