Charles Fillmore

Early Life

Charles Fillmore as a boy.

Early Life

Charles Sherlock Fillmore was born to Henry and Mary Georgiana Fillmore on August 22, 1854, near St. Cloud in the Minnesota Territory. He had one sibling, a younger brother named Norton. Although he had little formal education, Charles was fortunate that one of his friend’s mothers had a college education and tutored Charles. These sessions exposed Charles to a wide variety of subjects, authors, and ideas.

When Charles was 10 years old, he fell on ice and seriously injured his hip. Whether due to lack of treatment or improper treatment, his hip never fully recovered, and his leg did not grow normally. With one leg four inches shorter than the other, he was in chronic pain and walked with a very pronounced limp. It is this childhood injury that would later become a catalyst for becoming aware of his divinity and oneness with God.
